BCAAs / Branched Chain Amino Acids

Amino Acids are the building block of proteins and therefore muscles. Through regular exercise muscle fibres will tear and ultimately grow, since the mechanical function of a muscle fibre is made of protein it is essential that your body is recieving a sufficient amount of amino acids (This is especially important for those with dietary requirements an vegans). So what is special about BCAAs? Out of the 20 amino acids present, 3 of these amino acids have a branched structure. These specific amino acids help in reducing the affects of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), therefore reducing the pain the following day. These specific amino acids are metabolised in the muscle cell (rather than in the liver) and therefore can be utilised immeditaly after consummption allowing for explosive contractions and a reduced rate of fatigue.
